What to Know About Funerals During the Pandemic

In response to the COVID-19 pandemic that is currently affecting the globe, businesses and individuals have had to adjust the way many things are being done.

This also includes the methods for conducting funeral services and visitations, even as we have entered Phase 4 of recovery. Here are some things to know about attending funerals during this uncertain time.

As social distancing continues to be the focal point of slowing the spread of the novel virus, many gatherings have only recently started to reconvene. But because visitations and funeral services often include large numbers of people, Jones Funeral Home began taking measures that allow for alternative ways to attend services.

One of the most common variants is the live streaming of funeral services with local churches. The entire service streams live online so that you and your family and friends can view it from your computer or mobile device anywhere you are. While this is concept may seem a bit strange, some funeral homes have offered this for a while now as an acceptable way for people to attend the service when they cannot physically be present. In these times, many families have utilized this option as a matter of safety and a sign of proper respect to others.

The biggest benefit to streaming is that it allows for versatility and ease of attendance. Platforms like Zoom and Facebook Live offer instant accessibility for attendees, no matter where they are in the world. This option is ideal for people who wish to pay their respects but cannot travel or have conflicting schedules.

Additionally, in-person visitations are still available but are limited in the amount of people who can attend at a given time. These new rules have, at least for now, replaced the crowded rooms and long lines at visitations and funeral services. Currently, only a select number of people, usually no more than 50 at a time, with face coverings strongly encouraged, can visit.
