The holidays are approaching fast!
While a big part of holiday season is spending time with family and friends, indulging in those cookies that aren’t-so-good for you, and having a little extra fun that we all really need this year, it is important to maintain your healthy activities, too.
Even though this time of year seems to make us all busier, the hustle and bustle shouldn’t derail your exercise and social routines. Here are some quick tips to help you with those healthy habits during the holidays.
- Plan ahead. It’s the most wonderful – and busiest – time of the year, so getting your options and schedules in order are key, including your workouts. Even if it’s just taking a walk or jog before or after a family get together, finding that time to exercise will balance your mind and body nicely with all the other activities the holidays provide.
- Switch up your routine. This is a good time to temporarily change and condense your usual workout. Not only does this free up your schedule a bit, but it’s a good, healthy shock to your body to alter the intensity or duration of your workouts.
- Start a new healthy habit. Some people use the holidays as an excuse to skip exercise or eat poorly, but the opposite can happen too. Now is the perfect time to begin a new exercise program, improve that diet, and interact with friends and family in healthy, social ways.
To facilitate ideas like this during this time of the year, Dixon YMCA is offering the Holiday Hustle, a holiday fitness challenge that runs from November 9 – December 23!
The challenge will include weekly emails from a personal trainer containing workouts and diet tips, plus a 30-minute personal training session to help design an exercise program just for you! There will be weekly drawings and a grand prize drawing for participants who complete their challenge card.
“Katie, our personal trainer, is doing amazing offers with the program with weekly emails with recipes and workouts, along with a free personal training session!” says Member Engagement Coordinator and Y-Tots Teacher, Amanda Frechmann.
As we enter November, another very important date precedes the holiday season on November 11 th – Veteran’s Day. We at Dixon YMCA proudly support all our veterans and we wish to say thank you for your service and dedication to our country and our freedoms.
