Three Lawn Care Tips You Should Know

SPONSORED

The temperatures are warming, the sky is brightening up and the dandelions have arrived. Spring has sprung!

Now that winter is behind us, it’s time to get outside and take care of that landscape. A well-maintained lawn can greatly improve the look of your home’s exterior and give you something to show off to your whole block.

Whether you do your own yard work or have a lawncare service tackle the job for you, here are some spring lawn care tips that may help as the outdoor season begins:

1.      Don’t fertilize just yet. It may be tempting to toss down the fertilizer as soon as you can after the weather starts to turn, but that may not be the optimal time. Many studies have shown that it’s wise to fertilize after the spring grass has started to grow because the roots still have enough nutrients to support themselves for a while after winter.

2.      Water minimally. Test the soil by sticking a screwdriver into the ground. If it goes in easily, your lawn isn’t fully dried out yet. Therefore, you won’t need to add a lot of additional water. Wait until the grass starts to wilt a little bit before watering it thoroughly.

3.      Use the right chemical to control weeds. Nobody likes weeds. Pulling them is annoying and letting them grow and take over is out of the question for most homeowners. Fortunately, spring is a good time to address the issue. Use a pre-emergent herbicide, which can be found in any hardware store, to treat areas where weeds grow before they emerge. Later in the summer you can cover the same area with any number of weed killers. But attacking it now, with the right herbicide, is key to preventing new growths and keeping your lawn healthy all summer.

These are just a few basic things to consider when caring for your lawn this spring. For more helpful information, and tips on continued lawn care, visit our website or call us at 815-288-7841.
