The Dixon Park District officially broke ground Friday on the Water Wonderland splash pad at Meadows Park near Wooden Wonderland, off Washington Avenue. The nearly half-million-dollar project will have 23 water features and two zones geared toward children ages 2 to 5 and 5 to 12, a decorative waterfall, a pavilion, restrooms and landscaping. The pad is expected to be open in mid- to late June. The project was kick-started last year after a $200,000 anonymous donation. The district and city are committing $100,000 to the project, and are hoping to bring in $100,000 more from community donations. Drop off or mail donations to the Park District office, 804 Palmyra St., Dixon; by phone at 815-284-3306; or at at dixonparkdistrict.com.
