The Oregon cross country teams hosted a Big Northern Conference triangular at Oregon Park West on Friday afternoon, with the boys team winning and the girls team falling on a sixth-runner tiebreaker.
In the boys race, the Hawks scored 36 points to top Mendota and Rockford Lutheran, who tied with 43. Ryan Hussung won in 18:49.4, with Oregon teammate Gavin Bradshaw taking third in 19:42.3. Austin Ebert (9th, 20:19.8), Riley Benton (10th, 20:29.1) and Leo Cardenas (13th, 20:49.4) also scored for the Hawks.
On the girls side, Oregon and Rockford Lutheran both scored 28 points, but the Crusaders’ sixth runner took 10th to Oregon’s 12th.
Katlyn Ramirez (22:15.8), Faith Marquardt (22:16.4) and Leah Watters (22:18.0) finished 2-3-4 for the Hawks. Jennica Ciesel (8th, 24:16.1) and Ellen Hodson (11th, 24:59.2) also contributed to Oregon’s score, and Katelyn Bowers took 12th (25:13.9) as the sixth runner.
Lutheran’s Lauren Spangler won the race in 22:12.2. Teammate Adelyn Richard placed 10th to earn that sixth-runner tiebreaker.
Winnebago 174, Rock Falls 177: The Rockets dropped a close Big Northern dual at Rock River.
Megan Fiorini led Rock Falls with a 38, with Taylor Brown firing a 44, Ellie Wasson shooting a 46 and Madison Thatcher adding a 49. Lauren Tupper’s 51 rounded out the lineup.
Winnebago’s Kyra Simon was medalist with a 37.
Sauk Valley 5, Bryant & Stratton 4: The Skyhawks improved to 2-0 on the season by winning three singles matches and two doubles matches at home.
Sydney Schott and Lexy Sneek secured the win with a three-set victory at No. 2 doubles, downing the Bryant & Stratton duo 5-7, 6-3, 10-4.
Sneek (No. 4) and Meghan Van Buren (No. 5) both won 6-0, 6-0 in singles play, and Alyssa Marquez received a forfeit at No. 6. Van Buren and Marquez also received a forfeit at No. 3 doubles.
Maddy Jacobs (No. 1), Sonia Chino (No. 2) and Schott (No. 3) all lost in singles play, and Jacobs and Chino also fell at No. 1 doubles.
