MORRISON – The Whiteside County Board recently passed a resolution honoring the late Bill Milby, whose District 2 seat will remain unoccupied for at least another month.
Milby, who died Aug. 27 from complications of renal cancer, was on the board for 14 years and served as the former Twin City Joint Fire Command Deputy Fire Chief. He was 60.
Board Chairman Jim Duffy said he's vetting interested candidates for the position and will bring an appointment to the board.
Under the county code of ordinances, the board has 60 days from the creation of the vacancy to fill it.
Milby, a Democrat who served on the board since 2006, chaired the judiciary, and wage and salary committees.
Since his death, both committees have been directed by their vice chairs — Katherine Nelson for the judiciary committee, and Paul Cunniff for the wage and salary committee.
The board on Tuesday also adopted a condolence resolution "remembering and honoring the contributions made" by Milby during his 14 years on the board.
"Milby will be very hard to replace," Duffy said. "Trying to list all the things he did for this board, the list just keeps getting longer and longer."
