Local roundup: Rock Falls girls golf goes low in win over Galena

Dixon girls tennis sweeps Rochelle; Oregon boys and girls golfers win at home

The Rock Falls girls golf team picked up another dual win on Monday, defeating nonconference foe Galena 169-188 at Rock River Golf and Pool.

Freshman Megan Fiorini fired a 2-under-par 34 as medalist, and Ellie Wasson was runner-up with a 41 for the Rockets. Taylor Brown and Brooke Danreiter both fired 47s to round out the team score, and Lauren Tupper (49) and Madison Thatcher (60) also played for Rock Falls.

Rockridge 215, Erie-Prophetstown 242, Newman 245: The Panthers and Comets both came up short in a Three Rivers triangular at Lake Erie.

Ellie Rude led Newman with a 55, while Molly Olson (60), Addison Foster (64) and Julia Thormeyer (66) also contributed to the team score. Sophie Ely (75) also competed for the Comets.

Malory Eggers paced Erie-Prophetstown with a 53, and Sabrina Soleta (60), Berkley Eggers (61) and Fiona Huffstutler (68) also scored for the Panthers. Gabi Abell (69) and Jaelin Hawkins (79) also played.

Rockridge’s Amelia Rursch and Nicole Sedam shared medalist honors with matching 52s.

Oregon 200, Polo 212: The Hawks won a nonconference dual at Silver Ridge, led by medalist Cassie Nyderek’s 48.

Lena Trampel shared runner-up honors for Oregon with a 49, and Ava Hackman (50) and Mia Trampel (53) also contributed to the Hawks’ score. Helena Holden-Fox (54) and Tori Marchetti (55) also competed.

Polo’s Kamryn Stockton and Harper Clark were also runners-up with 49s. Kealie Wilcox (55), Alex Dusing (59), Becca Wagner (67) and Victoria Busser (73) also played for the Marcos.

Boys golf

Byron 176, Mendota 191, Rock Falls 232: The Rockets couldn’t keep up in a Big Northern triangular at PrairieView in Byron.

Evan Mandrell led Rock Falls with a 52, with Brady Richards adding a 58 and Nicholas Vickers and Caden Hartman both shooting 61s.

Byron’s Mason Brandt was medalist with a 41.

Oregon 213, Forreston 243, Polo 275: The Hawks won a nonconference triangular at Silver Ridge.

Jackson Werren was medalist with a 49 for Oregon, with Jarrett Dietrich (51), Isaac Reber (56) and Miley Smith (57) also counting toward the Hawks’ score. Isaac Kaltenbrun (59) and Brady Davis (62) also competed.

Cody Buskohl and Nathaniel Yingling paced Polo with matching 64s. Clay Davis (67) and Jacob Monaco (80) also played for the Marcos.

Aquin 206, West Carroll 221: The Thunder dropped an NUIC dual at Sandburr Run in Thomson.

Jacob McLuckie was runner-up with a 44 for West Carroll, and David Young (49) also broke 50. Dillon Hill fired a 56 and Devin Davis (72) rounded out the team score, while Kelden McCombie (75) and Chase Bentley (78) also played.

Aquin’s Lane Pierson was medalist with a 40.

Girls tennis

Dixon 5, Rochelle 0: The Duchesses swept both singles and all three doubles matches at the Emma Hubbs Tennis Courts in Page Park.

Riley Bally won 6-0, 6-0 at No. 1 singles, and Taylor Harrison won 6-4, 6-2 at No. 2 singles.

Leah Kuehl and Emma Russell won a third-set tiebreaker at No. 1 doubles (5-7, 6-2, 10-8), as did Maci Kelly and Meagan McLane at No. 3 doubles (4-6, 6-4, 10-4). Kyarra McGlown and Chloe Coil won 6-1, 6-3 at No. 2 doubles for Dixon.

Boylan 5, Newman 0: The Comets dropped both singles and all three doubles matches in a dual in Rockford.

Sarah Tunink (6-0, 6-1) and Lilliana Campbell (6-3, 6-2) lost in singles play for Newman. Maddy Verdick and Brynlee Hermeyer (7-5, 6-2), Marisel Schalck and Cecilia Sagel (6-1, 6-2), and Sophia Propheter and Fernanda Reyes (6-4, 6-1) lost in doubles.

Women’s tennis

Sauk Valley 9, MATC 0: The Skyhawks swept Madison Area Technical College in their home opener Sunday at SVCC in Dixon.

Maddy Jacobs won 6-0, 6-0 at No. 1 singles, and teamed with Sonia Chino for a 6-0, 6-0 win at No. 1 doubles; Chino won 6-4, 6-1 at No. 2 singles. Sydney Schott (No. 3 singles) and Meghan Van Buren (No. 5 singles) also won 6-0, 6-0, and Lexy Sneek was a 6-1, 6-1 winner at No. 4 singles. Schott and Sneek then teamed up for a 6-0, 6-0 win at No. 2 doubles.

Alyssa Marquez won by forfeit at No. 6 singles, and she and Van Buren also received a forfeit at No. 3 doubles.
