The Oregon girls cross country eked out a 27-28 win over rival Byron in a Big Northern Conference triangular Thursday at Oregon Park West. Stillman Valley did not field a full team.
Leah Watters (22:48.4), Faith Marquardt (23:32.4) and Katlyn Ramirez (23:43.7) finished 3-4-5 for the Hawks, while Jennica Ciesel (24:40.2) and Ava Wight (24:46.0) were seventh and eighth. Ellen Hodson (11th, 25:07.6) and Lydia Cermak (16th, 26:43.6) also ran.
On the boys side, Byron finished with 28 points, Stillman had 42 and Oregon scored 57. Ryan Hussung led the Hawks in third place (19:32.3), and Gavin Bradshaw (9th, 20:35.1) also placed in the top 10. Austin Ebert (12th, 20:46.8), Grant Stender (15th, 21:59.9) and Lane Halverson (18th, 24:01.6) also scored for Oregon, and Nicholas Meives-Wylie (19th, 27:08.9) also competed.
Sherrard 171, Hall 191, Morrison 224: The Mustangs fell in a Three Rivers triangular at Deer Valley in Deer Grove.
Mason Dykstra led Morrison with a 50, while Danny Mouw had a 56 and Nate Helms fired a 57. David Stralow rounded out the team score with a 61, and Cooper Bush and Dayton Young both shot 63s.
Sherrard’s Evan Earl was medalist with a 2-over-par 38.
Stockton 209, West Carroll 211: The Thunder came up just short in an NUIC dual at Sandburr Run in Thomson.
Jacob McLuckie won medalist honors with a 44 for West Carroll, while Deacon Hill (52), Dillon Hill (53) and Devin Davis (62) also counted toward the team score. Kelden McCombie (74) and Chase Bentley (76) also played for the Thunder.
Sterling 192, Stillman Valley 221: The Golden Warriors rolled to a nonconference win Wednesday at PrairieView in Byron.
Olivia Schwingle was medalist with a 40, and Maddie Pink was one stroke back. Libbi Kendrick (51), Caroline Mobarek (60) and Makayla Wolfe (8) also played for Sterling.
