Illinois announces 460 new cases of COVID-19, 8 additional deaths

Illinois has 460 new cases of COVID-19 and reported an additional eight deaths on Monday, according to the Illinois Department of Public Health.

Newly reported deaths include a man in his 60s from DuPage County, a woman in her 60s from Kendall County, a man in his 50s from Will County and a man in his 60s from Will.

The state now has seen 5,056 confirmed cases of the virus, 72 total deaths. Illinois has tested 30,446 people, as of Monday.

According to IDPH data released Monday, Chicago has now seen 2,198 cases. The rest of Cook County has seen 1,529.

Lake County has 343 cases, DuPage 320, Will 223, Kane 113, McHenry 52, Kendall 18, DeKalb eight, La Salle five, Whiteside four, Grundy three and Bureau one.

Gov. JB Pritzker said McCormick Place in Chicago would be up and running as a hospital as soon as this week. The McCormick Place could potentially house as many as 3,000 hospital beds.

The state is working to open two additional locations to fight the virus: the former Advocate Sherman Hospital campus in Elgin and the MetroSouth Health Center in Blue Island.
