MALTA – A Dixon man who tried unsuccessfully to swerve out of the way was injured in a weather-related crash in which a 20-year-old Kishwaukee College student died.

The collision happened around 5:30 p.m. Wednesday on state Route 38 just west of Malta Road, near the college entrance.

Millacent K. Miller of DeKalb lost control of her car because of the snow and slippery road conditions, crossed the center lane and collided with an oncoming pickup driven by Sergio Vargas, 32, the DeKalb County Sheriff’s Office said in a news release.

Miller, who was not wearing a seat belt, was pronounced dead at Northwestern Medicine Kishwaukee Hospital. Vargas was treated at the scene for minor injuries.
