Cougars cruise past AFC

Missiles fall in Forreston; Skyhawks stay hot at home

The Eastland boys basketball team jumped out to a big lead early on and cruised to an NUIC South road win Thursday night, defeating AFC 70-38 in Ashton.

Nine different Cougars scored as they led 33-9 after one quarter, 45-22 at halftime, and 63-34 after three quarters.

Brock Coatney led all scorers with 19 points for Eastland, and Braydin Preston scored 16. Stephen Reifsteck added eight and Kellen Henze chipped in seven.

Brett Buhrow had nine points to pace the Raiders, with Peyton Lanning adding eight and Ethan Drew scoring seven.

Forreston 47, Milledgeville 30: The Missiles were outscored 14-5 in the third quarter as the Cardinals pulled away for an NUIC South win in Forreston.

Treyton Selman’s 10 points led Milledgeville, and Kieren Harris scored six.

Kolten Dorty had 17 points for Forreston, and Ethan Greenfield added 13.

East Dubuque 58, West Carroll 27: The Thunder fell in an NUIC West road game.

Men’s basketball

Sauk Valley 90, Kishwaukee 68: The Skyhawks jumped out to a 53-23 lead by halftime and never looked back in an Arrowhead Conference win at home.

David Williams scored 23 points to lead Sauk (19-8, 6-3), and Markel Hudson finished with 20 points, seven rebounds, three assists and three steals.

Derian Duncan had 12 points, six assists and six steals, Austin Meiners finished with 11 points and eight rebounds, Beau Bailey added 10 points and six assists, and Cade Nailor chipped in eight points, eight rebounds and seven assists for the Skyhawks.
