DIXON – The Dixon Sister Cities Association will be celebrating a 2-decade partnership with Herzberg, Germany, next week by hosting a delegation of a dozen people.
The association has ties to four cities across the globe – Herzberg, Germany; Dikson, Russia, on the Arctic Sea in northern Siberia; Castlebar, Ireland; and Thika, Kenya.
Dixon and Herzberg trade delegations every 2 years; although there was a special exchange last year when German police officer Kathrin Sure spent 3 months in the Petunia City.
“I feel that 20 years of biennial exchanges is quite an accomplishment for the city,” association President Ellen Mumford said.
The delegation is scheduled to arrive in town Tuesday and stay until Oct. 30.
They’ll travel to several area sites including touring the new Lee County Jail, the Franklin Creek Grist Mill, Nachusa Grasslands, Dixon High School, The Next Picture Show, and participating in the Scarecrow Festival activities.
The group will also take trips to Chicago and Rockford.
