STERLING – The Walmart Distribution Center is putting out the call for 100 order fillers.
Those interested are invited to apply at a hiring event Sept. 19. Starting pay for the full-time jobs is $17.85 an hour, but can reach beyond $19.60 depending up the shift worked, schedule and work area, the company said in a news release Thursday morning.
At the Sterling distribution center, order fillers receive, prepare and package orders for pick up by shippers or customers for 146 Walmart stores and 30 Sam’s Clubs throughout the region.
At the hiring fair, which will be held from 2 to 7 p.m. at the center at 23769 Mathew Road, applicants will have the opportunity to meet one-on-one with management, learn more about the application process, and get a preview of the benefits the company offers, which include medical, vision and dental insurance, 401k matching, paid time off, a quarterly incentive program and access to a college degree for $1 a day.
There’s even the potential to land a job on the spot.
Those who cannot attend can apply at careers.walmart.com.
“Distribution centers are a great place to start a career at Walmart. In fact, that’s where our CEO first got his start, loading trucks,” Jason Sechrest, general manager of the Sterling distribution center, said in the release.
Companywide, e-commerce is up 37 percent over the past few months, the release said, hence the need for order fillers.
Greg Smith is executive vice president for Walmart U.S. Supply Chain.
Walmart has more than 4,700 locations across the county and is continuing to grow, and “as we continue to invest in the supply chain of the future, we are expanding our ability to serve customers by ensuring we have the right people in place,” Smith said in the release.
