How do you fight the fierce temperatures of a heat wave? You head to the nearest splash pad, which is just what folks were doing Friday as temps topped 90 degrees for the second day in a row and hot and humid weather continued to hang over much of the Midwest. Kids and their parents were walking in a Water Wonderland at Meadows Park in Dixon where they kept their cool in the nearly 2 dozen water features at the splash pad that opened just a few weeks ago, on July 4. More people will go with the flow today as things to continue to heat up, with temps in the mid-90s, and a heat index nearing 110. Come Sunday, though, the mercury will head south, when the highs are forecast to reach only the upper 70s.
