SPRINGFIELD – Deer hunters can apply until Aug. 23 for archery hunting on private land through the Illinois Department of Natural Resources’ Illinois Recreational Access Program.
IRAP has at least 200 sites of private land leased for public access in 30 counties, including Whiteside.
Applicants must have passed a hunter safety course if born in 1980 or after, have a valid hunting license, and choose whether they prefer to hunt from Oct. 1 to 15, or Oct. 16 to 31. IRAP is open to resident and nonresident hunters. Youth hunters are given preference in the lottery.
Successful applicants will be notified by mail about 3 weeks before their assigned hunting period, and receive their site location, a site map and an IRAP site permit.
