Memorial set for Thomson woman

THOMSON – Services have been set for a woman who was found dead Monday after a house fire in rural Thomson.

A memorial gathering for Sherry L. Wood, 66, will be from noon to 4 p.m. May 26 at The Lodge, 5642 Riverview Circle Drive. Law-Jones Funeral Homes is handling arrangements.

The state fire marshal is looking into the fire, with the cause still under investigation.

In a news release, investigators said Thomson firefighters received a call about 9:39 a.m. Monday of a structure fire at 5270 Riverview Circle Drive. Savanna and Thomson firefighters responded, and they found Wood’s body after entering the house.

Carroll County Coroner Matt Jones said Wood was found in her living room, and used a wheelchair.

“An autopsy was performed Tuesday. Preliminary indication is that it was smoke inhalation. We’re waiting on test results to come back before declaring a cause of death,” Jones said.

Wood had a caretaker, but Jones said Wood was the only person at the home at the time of the fire. A dog at the home did not survive the fire.

Wood’s obituary read she was the daughter of Marvin and Geraldine Heneke. She is survived by several close friends.
