Panthers tame Tigers

Warriors softball, baseball & boys tennis win

Eight different Erie-Prophetstown softball players had at least one hit, and seven had at least one RBI in a 13-3, six-inning victory over Sherrard on Tuesday in the Class 2A Alleman Regional semifinals in Rock Island.

E-P led 4-2 after three innings with a three-run third, and gained separation thanks to a seven-run fourth. Corrie Remley earned the complete-game win in the circle, striking out three and allowing seven hits and a walk. She also had a double and two RBIs.

Jaden Johnson went 3-for-3 with a double, two RBIs and four runs for the Panthers. Makenzie Glassburn and Erica Thulen both went 2-for-3 with a double and an RBI. Ady Scott added a double and an RBI. Skylar Steimle and Jessica Woodworth drove in a run each, while Calisa Steel had a double.

Sterling 1, United Township 0: Grace Gould scored an unearned run in the top of the seventh inning in the Golden Warriors’ nonconference road win over the Panthers.

Grace Gould, Gretchen Gould, Olivia Edmondson Riley Dittmar and Amayia Hernandez had Sterling’s five hits in the game.

Edmondson pitched, allowing just three hits – all of which were singles – and two walks in the win. She left seven runners stranded on base.

Rochelle 4, Dixon 1: The Duchesses dropped a nonconference home game to the Hubs at Reynolds Field.

Sam Tourtillot took the loss in the circle, allowing three earned runs, nine hits and five walks while striking out five in seven innings. She also had a double and an RBI in the bottom of the seventh inning.

Kara Gaither had a single and a double, while Mallory Coley added two singles for Dixon.

1A Pearl City Regional semifinal

Eastland 10, East Dubuque 0, 5 inn.: Emma Norton tossed a one-hitter to lead the Cougars into the regional championship game.

Norton struck out 10 Warriors in the cricle, and also had a single, a double and an RBI at the plate. Gabby Snyder went 3-for-4 with three RBIs, while Jenna Green recorded a double, a home run and two RBIs. Meredith Janssen was 2-for-4 with a double and two RBIs.

Haley Wilson had a pair of single. Erin Henze and Talena Rogers drove in a run each for Eastland, which will play Dakota for the regional title.

1A Forreston Regional semifinal

Forreston 14, Morrison 3, 5 inn.: The Mustangs fell behind 7-0 after two innings, and couldn’t recover in a season-ending loss to the host Cardinals.

Morrison scored all three of its runs in the fourth inning. Hannah Linder took the loss in the circle, allowing seven runs and 10 hits in two innings. Emma Peppers struck out four and allowed seven runs, eight hits and two walks in relief.


Sterling 9, Sandwich 2: The Golden Warriors earned a nonconference road win over the Indians, scoring four runs in the fifth inning to break open what had been a 3-1 game.

Dylan Bryant, Jeremy Hall and Camden Bailey all had two hits for the Warriors. Hall and Brayden Wolf doubled, and Bryant and Bailey drove in a pair of runs each.

Cooper Willman picked up the win, allowing a run on four hits and striking out two. Carter Lehman pitched three innings in relief, striking out three and allowing a run on four hits.

Dixon 4, Rochelle 3: The Dukes picked up a nonconference home win over the Hubs.

Dixon scored two runs in the bottom of the first inning, and responded with two more in the bottom of the sixth after Rochelle scored three in the top of the inning.

Oscar Van Sickle drove in a pair of runs. Brendan Boelter struck out two over four innings, while Tucker Cole picked up three strikeouts for the Dukes.

Galesburg 12, Rock Falls 0: The Rockets dropped a nonconference road game to the Silver Streaks.

2A Oregon Regional

Byron 8, Fulton 2: The Tigers scored six runs in the third inning to knock out the Steamers.

Larson Barnett had a double and an RBI for Fulton. Jake Pannell and Kannon Wynkoop both had a pair of singles.

Boys tennis

Sterling 5, United Township 0: The Golden Warriors capped off an unbeaten run through dual play with a home win over the Panthers.

Dillon Nitz won 6-0, 6-2 at No. 1 singles, while Grant Bright won 6-1, 6-1 at No. 2 singles.

In doubles play, Andrew Ivarson and Nathaniel Stout won 6-1, 6-0 at No. 1, Luke Steinke and Fritiof Fagergren won 6-2, 7-5 at No. 2, and Jonas Hicks and Matthew Valentino won 6-4, 6-7 (6), 11-9 at No. 3.

Newman 4, Mendota 1: The Comets earned a dual win over the Trojans at Sauk Valley Community College.

Jonathan Rhodes won 6-0, 6-1 at No. 1 singles, Brady Moran won 6-0, 6-2 at No. 2 singles, and Isaac Blaney and Jake Terveer won 6-1, 6-4 at No. 1 doubles for Newman.

The Comets’ No. 3 doubles team of Tyler Bonnell and Blake Gockel rebounded after dropping the second set to win 6-3, 5-7, 10-6.
