As a parent entering the Dixon Public Schools, I am proud to be voting Cocar, Gates and Gehlbach in the upcoming election, and ask readers to make a difference by joining me. With a city full of unique families, it is important we provide a well-rounded and balanced school board, one that will consider and act in the best interest of our children.
Rachael Gehlbach has been passionately involved with the Parent Teacher Council, as well as volunteering in the schools. She sees the need to build a culture of trust between the school board and the community by making certain there is transparency and strong communication with administrators, parents, educators, students and community members.
Melissa Gates has been collaborating with the schools for years. Thus, she has a keen sense of where improvements can be made in regard to student health, safety and welfare. She is knowledgeable on the programs and systems in place, including which ones are going well and which ones can be prioritized for improvement.
Rachel Cocar is an educator who understands firsthand what providers need to be most effective in helping students reach their fullest potential. She is a leader in our community, and is excited to lead Dixon Public Schools to greatness.
Our children are the future, the next generation of innovation. In order to prepare them for 21st century life, they need sound education. If we want to see better schools, it is imperative our voice be heard on board membership, as school boards are a governing body, representing community values. Only we can change our community. Please join me in “Moving Dixon Forward” by voting Cocar, Gates and Gehlbach on April 2.
