DIXON – The Park District will break ground on the Water Wonderland splash pad Friday.
Community members are invited to the ceremony at 10 a.m. at Meadows Park off Washington Avenue.
The project is expected to cost a little more than $500,000 and will have 23 water features and two zones geared toward children 2 to 5 and 5 to 12, a decorative waterfall, a pavilion, restrooms and landscaping.
The district and the city started putting together plans for the water park in June after receiving $200,000 from an anonymous donor.
Both entities are committing $100,000 for the project, which is expected to open in mid- to late June, and are hoping to bring in $100,000 more from community donations.
So far, they’ve raised about $40,000.
