Frey guy: Montmorency superintendent channels his inner Eagle for cancellation announcement

ROCK FALLS – The weather outside is frightful, but Montmorency School superintendent Alex Moore found a way to make Monday’s cancellation notice seem delightful.

Local superintendents lately have been busy making determinations about the statuses of school days, but Moore put a twist on Monday’s announcement by channelling his inner Glenn Frey.

Moore posted a video on the school’s Facebook page of himself in his office, wearing a school hoodie and sporting a Chicago Cubs hat and parodying The Eagles’ “Take it Easy” to the current weather situation.

The song begins with, “I’m sittin’ at the school and I’d think it be cool if I cancelled class for today.”

The video had nearly 15,000 views, 350 shares, 270 likes and 80 comments by what would have been the end of the school day.

“It’s winter. Everybody gets tired of being indoors,” Moore said. “This is a time of year where the staff may be down a little bit just because it’s that time of year, and the students can be too. So I decided to go outside the box.”

Putting twists on classic rock staples is something that Moore grew up doing while riding in the car with his uncle. The Eagles were his favorite band.

Moore said more videos may appear with the weather situation not looking good.

“The next [couple of] days are not looking very promising,” he said.
