Gretchen Gould, 18, of Sterling, is one of Sterling High School’s October Students of the Month. Her parents are Jeff and Brenda Gould, and she has two siblings, Grace and Brenden.
Favorite class: Publications, because I enjoy writing articles for the newspaper and taking photos for the yearbook.
Least-favorite class: Algebra 3, because I am not a big fan of math.
Favorite teacher: Jennifer Drew, because she always makes her classes enjoyable and she knows how to put a smile on my face.
School activities in which you participate: Volleyball, basketball, softball, freshman mentor program, Fellowship of Christian Athletes, and National Honor Society.
Civic, church, volunteer or activities in which you participate: I am a member of Sacred Heart church and I serve as a Eucharistic minister. I also play travel softball for Heartland Havoc.
How would you describe your group of friends? Intelligent and talented.
What will you do after high school? I am going to attend Millikin University in Decatur and major in elementary education with a special education endorsement. I will also be playing softball at Millikin.
What is something you learned in high school that you think you’ll never use? I don’t think I will ever use the quadratic formula.
If you could change one thing about your school, what would it be? Open campus lunch.
What is your advice for surviving high school? Manage your time well.
What do you do in your free time, outside of school activities? I play travel softball for the Heartland Havoc, spend time with my family, and attend country concerts.
What’s one thing in your life you can’t do without? I couldn’t live without my sister because she’s my best friend.
What kind of music are you listening to? Country music.
What scares you? I am scared of bugs and scary movies.
If you could try any job for the day, what would it be? Skydiver, because it would be a thrilling and fun job.
If you could go anywhere in the world for free, where would it be? Jamaica, because I enjoy the beach and it looks beautiful.
What is your favorite childhood memory? Winning the Disney soccer tournament.
What is the best way to cheer you up? Play catch with me.
Do you think you will be the same person 10 years from now? No, I will be different because I will be more educated and have more life experiences.
What is your life’s philosophy? Work hard and give glory to God.
Is there anything else you want people to know about you? My volleyball team is going to state (which they ended up winning.)
