On Aug. 7, the Oregon Police Department and Ogle County Sheriff Department held National Night Out, an annual community-building campaign promoting police-community partnerships and camaraderie to make neighborhoods safer and caring places.
This was the first year the departments co-hosted the event. Even with rain up to an hour before, hundreds came downtown to have a good time.
There was a bounce house, great food and fun activities for all ages to enjoy. Booths were set up to help promote safety.
We would like to thank the following people and organizations for donating money, prizes and time to help make this event special.
Thank you to Fran Kaminski and St. Mary Church for providing cold drinks, Sue Comins and St. Bride Episcopal Church for goodie bags to children, and Nancy Crandall and Oregon United Methodist Church for delicious slushies.
Thank you to Stillman Bank, Central Bank and Harvard State Bank for providing the bounce house and activities for everyone to enjoy.
Thank you to the Chicago White Sox, Chicago Wolves and Rockford Rivets baseball team for providing ticket vouchers for 2018 home games in our free raffle; and to the Chicago Bears for providing a laser autographed picture.
Thank you to Dixon Walmart for donating money to purchase prizes given away; Oregon Park District for providing lawn games; the Maggie and Amos Foundation for providing games and candy for the children; and the Oregon Fire Department for providing fire trucks and ambulances for everyone to see.
We also would like to thank all citizens who came out and enjoyed National Night Out, making it very memorable.
It was great to see positive interactions between citizens and local law enforcement. Events like this promote a safer community for everyone.
I’m glad to have been a part of planning this event and bring so many people out for a good cause.
