U.S. Rep. Adam Kinzinger and the Fraternal Order of Police Labor Council, which represents school resource officer Mark Dallas, responded to this morning's shooting:
“As we continue to gather more information about the shooting incident at Dixon High School this morning, I extend my deepest gratitude to the Dixon Police Department, and especially the School Resource Officer (SRO) on-site, for their swift action today and for keeping our students, teachers, and our community safe,” Kinzinger, R-Channahon, said in a 10 a.m. release.
"We are extremely grateful that all of the students and staff at Dixon High School will be able to return to their homes unharmed today,” FOP Labor Council Executive Director Shawn Roselieb said in a release sent around noon.
“The officer's actions at the high school will be closely scrutinized, but the simple fact is, nobody but the gunman was hurt today, and keeping students and teachers safe is the primary job for school resource officers.”
“A tragedy was averted today in Dixon because a police officer put his life on the line to protect his fellow citizens,” Roselieb said.
“We have FOP staff in Dixon today and they will assist local authorities wherever possible while continuing to provide the counseling and support that we give to Illinois law enforcement officers involved in on-duty shootings.”
