OREGON – An Oregon man is charged with DUI after a fatal boating collision Friday.

According to court records, Marc Mongan, 46, is charged with operating a watercraft while under the influence of alcohol and reckless operation of a watercraft, both misdemeanors.

Mongan, owner of Oregon Healthcare Pharmacy Services Inc., will be arraigned July 15 in Ogle County Court.

Megan M. Wells, 31, of Rockford, was pronounced dead at Swedish American Hospital in Rockford after the johnboat Mongan was operating struck a pontoon boat in which she was a passenger.

Wells, the mother of three, was thrown overboard in the collision, which occurred at 8:40 p.m. on the Rock River 3 miles north of Oregon, Illinois Department of Natural Resources spokesman Chris Young said Monday.

She died of blunt force trauma to her chest, according to an autopsy done Monday.

Nicholas Lamb, 29, Oregon, a passenger in the johnboat, was taken to Rockford Memorial Hospital with serious injuries, the Ogle County Sheriff said.

Pontoon passengers David Daily, 52, of Leaf River; Phillip Lukes, 52, of Chicago; and Sherry Bushre, 59, of Chicago, all refused treatment at the scene, as did Mongan.

The accident is under investigation by the IDNR Conservation Police.
