Sauk Valley area softball teams have shown signs of potential in the first month-and-a-half of the season. Sterling and Fulton have emerged as top teams in the region, while Morrison and Dixon are trending upward.
Last season was quite a ride for Sycamore native Kylie Feuerbach with the Iowa women’s basketball team – and she was just a spectator. This time around, she took a more active role in the Hawkeyes’ second straight trip to the NCAA Championship Game.

Newman freshman Elaina Allen won the 100 meters and 200 meters in a 12-team field at Riverdale's Paul Parker Coed Invite on April 12. She has been voted the Sauk Valley Media Athlete of the Week by readers for April 8-14.
Rock Falls senior Olivia Osborne went 4 for 4 with two RBIs, a home run and a double in a 10-8 win over Winnebago. The Sterling softball team and Newman and Oregon baseball teams also picked up conference wins. Those results and more in Saturday's roundup.
The Dixon, Newman, Rock Falls, Amboy, Forreston-Polo, Fulton and Bureau Valley boys and girls track and field teams all competed Friday at the Rock Falls Rocket Invite at Hinders Field. Dixon took home the boys title and Rock Falls girls were runner-up.
