After an illness or injury, patients can benefit from the services provided by a Rehabilitation Center. Generally, physical, occupational, and speech therapies are provided, all of which can help restore a patient’s functional abilities. Morrison Community Hospital’s Rehabilitation Center, which offers both inpatient and outpatient therapies, is referred to by many area physicians and facilities. Their Critical Access Hospital designation allows MCH to spend more time with and allocate more resources for patients. Licensed therapists are on staff at all times.
Physical therapy is beneficial for patients needing improved mobility, flexibility, and muscle strength, and for management of pain, swelling, joint stiffness, and muscle spasms. PT can also improve cardiovascular and respiratory endurance, and can help treat vertigo, dizziness, and balance and coordination issues. Patients requiring wound care or prescription and training with adaptive equipment such as walkers and canes will benefit from physical therapy. Home fitness and wellness programs are available, in addition to orthotic and prosthetic device prescriptions and training.
Occupational therapy focuses on training patients to manage their self care and the functioning of their home, including getting dressed, eating, bathing, cooking, and money management. Home Assessments are available, along with Functional Capacity Evaluations and a Work Conditioning program. Patients can also work on sensory integration, neuromuscular reeducation, and strengthening upper extremity range of motion and coordination, and can be fitted for wheelchair or scooter positioning and training.
Speech therapy at MCH applies to all ages and a large scope of medical diagnoses, including autism, aphasia, Parkinson’s, Alzheimers, strokes, and head injuries, among others. Language therapy assists patients who are challenged with expressing themselves verbally and in writing. Cognitive therapy helps improve memory, thought organization, problem solving, and abstract reasoning. Nonverbal communication therapy, voice, fluency (stuttering), and laryngeal therapy are also available. For more information, please contact:
