Sterling man gets 13-year sentence for stealing scrap metal
MORRISON – A Sterling man with a history of felony burglaries was sentenced Wednesday in Whiteside County Court to 13 years in prison for stealing scrap metal.
Steven K. Argraves, 40, who was given credit for 88 days served, also will be subject to 3 years of supervised release. He also was convicted of burglary in 1994 and 1998.
Police say Argraves and Terry G. Gibbs, 35, of Rock Falls, stole the scrap metal from a rural Sterling business in January and sold it.
The owner of the stolen motors and copper spotted the items the next day at nearby Cimco Recycling. The two garnered $600 for the scrap, court records say.
Gibbs also pleaded guilty to felony burglary and was sentenced April 12 to 14 years in prison, but a motion to vacate the judgment and sentence and withdraw the guilty plea was filed April 17. A hearing has been set for May 15 on that motion.
