Rock Falls driver in Cash4Gold burglary gets 4 years in prison
DIXON – The getaway driver in the theft of a safe, who has a hefty criminal background in several counties, was sentenced Thursday to 4 years in prison.
Jason E. Geeting, 36, of Rock Falls, pleaded guilty in Lee County court to attempted burglary. In exchange, prosecutors dropped a burglary charge.
That sentence will run concurrently with a 2 1/2 year sentence for retail theft in Whiteside County. He will get credit for time served since May 1.
Getting told the court that, on April 19, he drove co-defendants Caleb A. Leifheit, 23, of Mount Morris, and Ethan Seidel, 23, no permanent address, to Cash4Gold, 112 S. Galena Ave.
Surveillance video showed two men – whom police say were Leifheit and Seidel – forcing open the door and taking the safe, which was found the next day in the Hennepin Canal in Rock Falls, police said.
Leifheit pleaded guilty to burglary in June and was sentenced to 3 years in prison.
Seidel also is charged with burglary; he has a pretrial conference March 5.
Geeting also has several convictions for retail theft and drug charges in Henry, Kane, and Whiteside counties.
