MOUNT CARROLL – Timber Lake Playhouse will open its season in May with a popular play never before performed at the summer theater.

“We’re opening with ‘A Chorus Line’ on June 6, a pretty legendary musical,” Executive Director James Beaudry said.

The second play is the two-person “Tuesdays with Morrie” – a “really wonderful, uplifting story.” Also on tap are “The Music Man,” “Unnecessary Farce,” “S’Wonderful,” and the children’s production of “Seussical.”

The name of the seventh production has yet to be revealed. Beaudry would say only that it is on national tour. Theater fans must wait until March 15 to get the scoop.

Another first this year: Completion of the company’s new scene shop, which will enhance the nonprofit TLP’s production capabilities.

TLP is raising money to pay for the shop, which now is too small to build the elaborate set components they way the professional theater company would like. The current shop, in fact, is even smaller than the stage for which the sets are built.

It’s also the space where dancers rehearse, so there’s often no room to work at all.

The fundraising campaign, which began 2 years ago, has brought in $30,000 of the $60,000 needed to finish the work, Beaudry he said.

“We still need a few generous donors. I’m confident we will be able to get it up by the end of the year.”

The goal is to have the foundation, plumbing and prep work done by the time the season starts in May, and the rest of the building up by September.
