Husband charged with first-degree murder in wife's strangulation
DIXON – Brian C. Sigler, 34, was arrested this morning and charged with first-degree murder in the Jan. 12 strangulation of his wife, Yolanda M. Sigler, Dixon police said in a news release.
The Siglers' 10-year-old son called 911 at 2:26 p.m. that Sunday afternoon from their home at 230 Lincolnway. Police found Sigler in a second-floor bathtub with a knife, and his wife's body in the living room moments later.
Sigler was in KSB Hospital undergoing treatment for life-threatening, self-inflicted stab wounds to the neck and abdomen until his arrest.
He now is in Lee County Jail awaiting a bond hearing that will be held Tuesday in Lee County Court.
An autopsy Tuesday on Yolanda Sigler, also 34, showed some bruising on her legs that could be defensive wounds, Police Chief Danny Langloss said. As a matter of routine, toxicology reports were sent to the Illinois State Police crime lab; they could be back in 3 or 4 weeks.
The Siglers were married for 15 years but were starting divorce proceedings and had discussed one of them moving out, Langloss said. Police believe the boy, who is now with relatives, slept through the incident.
