Mammosser scores 26 for Rockets
ROCK FALLS – Morgan Mammosser added another memorable moment Friday at Tabor Gym.
The Rock Falls senior, who has starred in both basketball and volleyball for the Rockets, had a career night in leading the Rockets to a 54-38 Big Northern West win over visiting Winnebago.
Mammosser slashed and dashed her way to a career-high 26 points. She scored 20 points in the first and third quarters, netting 11 in the third and nine in the first. She added seven rebounds and four assists.
"I scored when I needed to score, and I guess I didn't realize I scored that much," Mammosser said. "My driving helped create open shots, and my dump downs when I drove helped too."
"She's so quick, and she's so tough inside," Rock Falls coach Craig Mammosser said. "I don't think people give her enough credit when she's going to the basket about how tough she is. She's been playing really well the last 5, 6, 7 games."
Mammosser helped the Rockets (10-12, 4-4) jump out to a big advantage. Rock Falls led 23-11 after one quarter.
"We came out with a lot of energy and intensity," said the Rockets' Jordan Giddings, who had 10 points, 12 rebounds and five assists.
"We definitely put it on them in the first quarter," Morgan Mammosser said. "We were running up and down the floor. We pressed and got them frazzled."
Winnebago (4-16, 1-7) whittled a 15-point deficit to eight, 30-22, at the half.
Rock Falls responded, building the margin back to 15 in the third quarter, thanks to Mammosser's 11 points. The Rockets were not threatened in the fourth quarter.
Bailey Schrader contributed 11 points, five rebounds and three steals for Rock Falls, while Danica Fortune scored all six of her points on two 3-pointers in the first quarter.
Some new faces, sophomore Dallas Clevenger and freshman Sydnie Nailor, are becoming key contributors for the Rockets.
"They push us to work harder, because they could come in and take our spot," Giddings said. "It also helps the nonstarters, because they're like, 'They can come in and play, so I can too.' So, they're working harder and we're coming together more as a team."
Winnebago got 10 points apiece from Lizzy Leden and Carley Niday.
