Marcos roll past SoBos on road
The Polo Marcos took over third place in the NUIC East by a half-game Wednesday, traveling to South Beloit and returning with a 78-54 victory over the SoBos.
AJ Dollmeyer poured in 29 points for Polo (12-5, 5-2), hitting 11 shots and making seven of his eight free-throw attempts. Brian Cavanaugh added 11 points and Brad Cavanaugh chipped in eight for the Marcos, who led 47-22 by halftime.
Matt Saari paced South Beloit (4-6, 4-2) with 14 points, hitting three 3-pointers.
Aquin 60, Milledgeville 28: The Missiles trailed from the start, falling behind 16-9 after one quarter before managing only four points in both the second and fourth periods against the first-place Bulldogs in Freeport.
Kaleb Ebersole and Doug Williams scored nine points apiece for Milledgeville (4-11, 1-5 NUIC East). Nolan Brannick paced Aquin (13-1, 5-0) with 15 points.
Eastland 61, Pearl City 34: The Cougars remained undefeated in NUIC West play, using a 31-12 scoring run in the second and third quarters to pull away.
Dalton Shaner scored 21 points, and Skylar Paulson added 12 for Eastland (14-3, 5-0), which moved a full game ahead of Scales Mound for first place in the conference standings.
Girls bowling
Sterling 3,132, Streator 2,583: The Golden Warriors rolled past the Bulldogs in their Northern Illinois Big 12 finale at Blackhawk Lanes.
Amber Granzow and Destinee Howard led the way for Sterling (9-2, 7-2 NIB-12), with series of 563 and 561, respectively. They also had the Warriors’ two highest games, with Granzow’s 211 and Howard’s 208.
Magan Tintori added a 524 series and 203 high game for Sterling, which easily took all 10 points in the dual.
With the regular-season NIB-12 slate finished, the Warriors travel to DeKalb on Monday for the
conference tournament.
Wrestling
Comets lose twice in Savanna: Newman dropped a pair of nonconference duals, falling 49-27 to Sherrard and 39-38 to the host West Carroll Thunder.
Jake Snow (126 pounds), Bryce Ivey (152) and Brian Bahrs (160) each won two bouts for Newman.
In the third dual, the Thunder lost 37-36 to Sherrard. Morgan Hartman (138) was the lone double-winner for West Carroll.
