CLINTON, Iowa – The Iowa Board of Medicine has charged a Clinton ob-gyn with incompetent, unprofessional and unethical conduct, among other things.

According to the board, Dr. Steven Breaux, 55, faces five charges stemming from accusations that he used fraud to procure his license, treated nurses in a “degrading and condescending manner,” improperly prescribed medication, and failed to properly treat two women, one with an abnormal pap smear and one with preeclampsia.

In addition, Breaux lost his Mercy Medical Center privileges on Feb. 2, 2011, but failed to disclose the suspension on his application to renew his license, the board said in a statement.

The infractions occurred between 2008 and the present; the board filed charges on Jan. 11, the statement said.

Breaux’s Iowa medical license, issued in 2006, expires Jan. 1, 2014.

A hearing has been scheduled for April 11-12 before the board.

According to the Illinois Department of Financial and Professional Regulation website, Breaux also is affiliated with Morrison Community Hospital, but an employee of the hospital and the office manager at Breaux’s Clinton office said Tuesday that he is not.
