December Student of the Month Lucas Terveer
Senior Lucas Terveer, 18, of Rock Falls, is Newman Central Catholic High School’s December Student of the Month. He is the son of Bruce and Jennie Terveer of Rock Falls; his brothers are Nathan Terveer, 16, a junior at Newman, and Jake Terveer, 12, a student at St. Andrew School in Rock Falls. The family has two gerbils, Francisco and Walter Hobbs, named for characters in the movie “Elf.”
Favorite class: Anatomy. I liked learning about the body and how it works.
Favorite teachers: Ryan Oetting, history and government. He’s really down-to-earth and understands high school students and what level they’re at.
Extracurriculars: Football and basketball; Math Club and National Honor Society; and the school musical. I’m an Illinois State Scholar, too.
After graduation: I’m going to college, either St. Ambrose University or the University of Illinois. I want to study physical therapy.
Paycheck: Detasseling in the summer. It’s tough work. No one likes doing it. But it pays well.
Best friends: I have too many to mention.
Favorite musical group: Zac Brown Band.
Favorite movie: “Elf.”
Favorite TV show: “SportsCenter.”
Hobbies: Hanging out with friends and playing video games.
Favorite game or outdoor activity: Camping.
Favorite food: Kraft macaroni and cheese.
Favorite website: ESPN.com.
Favorite trend: “Noodies” – sweatshirts with no hoods.
Biggest fear: Heights.
Pet peeve: Texting and driving.
What kind of music makes your skin crawl? Screamo.
Haunts: McDonald’s. We usually go there after any sporting event.
I’m in the dictionary next to: Map. I’m really good with directions.
Personal trivia: I wish I could stay in high school for another 4 years.
Dream job: Architect.
Trading places: I would trade places with Uncle Si from “Duck Dynasty.” He lives such a laid-back life, and he’s a pretty funny guy.
Trading spaces: Hollywood. I’d want to see the celebrities and where they live.
Read this: A biography of Michael Jordan. He’s one of my idols. It’s a pretty good story.
What would you do if you had $100,000? I’d use it for college.
What do you wish your high school offered? Men’s volleyball.
What’s a tip you would give freshmen for making high school life easier? Get involved in as many sports and clubs as possible, because it will help you meet new friends.
