October Student of the Month: Abbie Brenner
Senior Abbie Brenner, 17, of Sterling, is one of Sterling High School’s October Students of the Month. She is the daughter of Steve and Andrea Brenner of Sterling; her brother is Aaron Brenner, 19, a student at Butler University, and her sister is Aviva Brenner, 10, a student at Lincoln Elementary. The family has two dogs and two cats.
Favorite class and teacher: AP Literature. Susan Lawson is a really good teacher. She goes over the curriculum really thoroughly, she’s really helpful and she knows what she’s talking about; she’s really smart. I love to read, too.
Extracurriculars: Swimming, track and field, B.L.I.N.D. (Building Lasting Impressions that Never Die) and Greater Rockford Temple Youth group.
After graduation: Going to either Southern Illinois University or Bowling Green State University and majoring in fashion merchandising.
Paycheck: I work for the Sterling Park District, taking admissions for games at Westwood Sports Center, and I teach swimming lessons at Duis Recreation Center. Neither job is too hard, but neither one is boring, either.
Best friend: Charli Wike. We’ve been friends since we were little, and we’ve always been on swimming together. She’s really fun to be around.
Favorite musical group: Of Monsters and Men.
Favorite actor: Channing Tatum.
Favorite TV show: “Pretty Little Liars” or “Revolution.”
Favorite food: Lasagna.
Favorite place to shop: CherryVale Mall in Rockford.
Biggest fear: Snakes.
Pet peeve: When people chomp their gum.
Haunts: Arthur’s Deli. We like to go there for lunch sometimes.
I’m in the dictionary next to: Happy. I’m just always happy. I always have a smile on my face. I never really get mad, and I get over stuff pretty fast.
Secret twin: Marion Cotillard.
Personal trivia: I love to sew. I’ve been sewing since third grade.
Dream job: President of the United States.
Trading places: A professional dancer. I just think it would be fun and really exciting.
Trading spaces: Israel. It’s a part of my heritage, and it seems like there are so many beautiful places to see there.

What would you do if you had $100,000? I’d put it toward college expenses.
What do you wish your high school offered? A pool at the high school.
What’s a tip you would give freshmen for making high school life easier? Start the year with your grades up because that affects the rest of your years in school.
