Take one part Swedish pop group, add a dash of Broadway and top it off with some Hollywood magic and you have the recipe for a hit show. Students at Sterling High School will hit the stage Friday, Saturday and Sunday to perform “Mamma Mia!,” a musical based on the songs from ’70s pop group ABBA. The band’s music was turned into a hit musical in 1999, and a 2008 film adaptation, and its 2018 sequel, continued its popularity. The story follows a woman planning her wedding, but she doesn’t know who her father is. She discovers he could be one of several men so she invites them all to the wedding. The play features several ABBA songs, including “Dancing Queen,” “Gimme! Gimme! Gimme! (A Man After Midnight),” Waterloo” and the title song. Shows will be at 7:30 p.m. Friday and Saturday, and a Sunday matinee is at 2 p.m. Tickets – ranging from $10 to $12 for adults and $6 to $8 for students – are on sale at centennialauditorium.org or by calling 815-622-3248.
