Ronald Reagan's birth date celebrated
While Dixon can lay claim to being the hometown of Ronald Reagan, the little “Dutch” boy wouldn’t have been able to call Dixon home without Tampico. It was there that the 40th president was born on Feb. 6, 1911, and it’s there that volunteers from the Ronald Reagan Birthplace & Museum celebrate his birthday each year. On Wednesday, they served up cake for the former president’s 108th birthday. The future actor-turned-politician was born in the Whiteside County village in an apartment above a bakery, where he spent his first 4 months. The family then moved to a house on Glassburn Street, across from Reagan Park, before moving to Chicago when Reagan was 4. The family relocated to Galesburg a short time later, followed by time in Monmouth, before returning to Tampico, where they stayed until moving to Dixon in 1920. Go to tampicohistoricalsociety.com for more information on the birthplace.
