High waters chased away the Rock Falls River Chase in June, but the high-powered competition returned Saturday and Sunday under sunny skies, mild temperates and a much more cooperative river. Boats barreled down the river on a half-mile course at Seward Park in a stock outboard boat racing event run by the Marine Racing Club of Illinois and sanctioned by the American Power Boat Association. Racers competed for points in various categories according to age, boat weight and motor type. The Marine Racing Club of Illinois has been around for more than 50 years.
