You could drive into Chicago biting your nails, getting gray hair looking for a parking place, and then watch as your money disappears and your plastic thins as you shop until you drop.
Or you could try something more relaxing. Snub the shops for now and spend some time out on the water, letting the sun warm your face and the bright lake make you squint even in your sunglasses. It’s still summer, folks. Let’s enjoy Chicago like the boat owners do, courtesy of one of the Chicago cruise lines.
I picked Mercury: Chicago’s Skyline Cruiseline, which offers a 90-minute Urban Adventure Cruise daily at 10:15 a.m., and 12:15, 2:15, 4:15 and 6:15 p.m. through Oct. 8.
The Urban Adventure gives you a little of everything – time on the Chicago River and Lake Michigan, as well as information about the history of Chicago – as you boat past such sites as the John Hancock Building, Marina City and Willis Tower. The cost is $35 for adults and $14 for ages 5 to 15.
