No one was singing “If I Had a Hammer” over the weekend at the John Deere Historic Site in Grand Detour. There were plenty to go around for the blacksmiths who demonstrated their time-honored tradition during the site’s biennial Hammer-In. Blacksmiths from throughout the Midwest came together Saturday and Sunday to celebrate the trade that helped forge a nation. Joining them were basket weavers, broom makers, trappers, wheelwrights and others who conducted living history lessons. Guests also took part in hands-on demonstrations.
