With sunny skies and temperatures in the 90s on Saturday, it was the perfect day to head out on the river, but for some folks it wasn’t about cooling down, it was about picking up trash. Volunteers gathered at Oppold Marina in Sterling to board their boats and cruise in their canoes for the 33rd annual Rock River Development Authority’s river cleanup. Volunteers took to the river for 5 hours and fished out all sorts of garbage, including tires, barrels, an old dock and even a playground slide. The RRDA was formed in 1984 to help keep the river safe and scenic by removing trash and other hazards. Saturday’s cleanup hauled in three large and one small dump truck loads of junk. Afterward, volunteers headed to nearby Moonlight Bay Marina for lunch. Find Rock River Development Authority on Facebook for more information on the group.
