Volunteers bundled up Saturday and headed to the Hennepin Canal for the Rock River Development Authority’s Hennepin Feeder Canal cleanup. During the annual rubbish ritual, folks grabbed gobs of garbage as they did their part to their little corner of America beautiful. The waterway, like others across the state, suffers from an infestation of litterbugs – and it’s not just pop bottles and plastic bags. According to the nonprofit organization’s Facebook page, volunteers picked up kiddie pools, tires and even some broken windshields. The nonprofit organization was established in 1984 to enhance and preserve recreational areas in and around the Rock River and Hennepin Canal Feeder.
