The Westwood Tennis Center will open for business Friday, but before things get into full swing, the Sterling Park District held a nearly 6-hour open house Thursday to give people a first look at the newly renovated, $1.7 million facility at the Westwood Fitness & Sports Center, 1900 Westwood Drive in Sterling. The Center is housed in Building 2, which had been used for tennis before it was closed in 2010 due to a leaking roof and waning interest in tennis. Five years later, an anonymous $600,000 donation breathed new life into the building, and helped lay the groundwork for an expanded and revitalized tennis program, which will begin in March – an all-around net gain for both tennis fans and the community.
