It's National Punctuation Day; Time to Head for the Kitchen
Break out the hats and horns!
And the oven mitts.
Today (Sept. 24) is National Punctuation Day.
And what a celebration this should be.
It is unfortunate that so many people – journalists among them – don't appreciate more the little things that mean at lot to what they mean when they write.
Really.
Consider this: A woman without her man is nothing.
And then consider how punctuation can make all the difference: A woman: without her, man is nothing.
It's punctuation that turns perfectly acceptable extra marital sex into tawdry extra-marital sex.

This is the day to pledge you will never, ever again forget the appositive comma, even in complex constructions ... never again confuse its and it's or otherwise abuse the apostrophe ... never again forget to make greater use of the period to shorten sentences ... to finally learn how to use a semicolon. ...
This is the first day of the rest of your punctuating life.
