Second Saturdays

DIXON – Second Saturdays Art Happenings, featuring art, music and other cultural events, returns to various venues, mostly from 6 to 8 p.m. downtown, between First and Second streets and Peoria and Galena avenues. This month, Dixon native and guitarist Wade Buzzard makes his Second Saturdays debut at Waterfront Gifts and Antiques, playing his own brand of acoustic rockin’ soul.

'Proof' opens at Sauk

DIXON – Sauk Valley Community College presents "Proof," winner of the 2001 Pulitzer Prize and Tony Award for best play.

Show times are 7 p.m. today and Saturday and 2 p.m. Sunday.

Saturday's show comes with an optional a wine tasting at 5:30 p.m. Those tickets must be reserved by today, and patrons must be at least 21 to sample wines, cheeses, crackers and desserts before the show starts.

Tickets are $8 for adults, $4 for seniors, and $2 for students at 815-288-5511, ext. 0, or at the door. Tickets that include the wine tasting are $8 for everyone.

'Seeing Stars'

STERLING – The 12th annual Lutheran Social Services of Illinois' "Seeing Stars" variety show will be held at 7 p.m. today and Saturday and 2 p.m. Sunday at Sterling High School's Centennial Auditorium, 1608 Fourth Ave.

Advance tickets are $10 at the box office, open from 3 to 6 p.m. today, at centennialauditorium.org or by calling 815-622-3248. They are $12 at the door.

Meet the Beetles

DIXON – Meet the Beetles, a top-touring Beatles tribute band, performs at 7 p.m. Saturday at the Historic Dixon Theatre, 114 S. Galena Ave. Tickets are $10 at Trein's or Venier's, or online at www.dixontheatre.com; they will be $15 at the door, which opens at 6:30 p.m. 

The band does two acts, one in the traditional Ed Sullivan Show performance style and the other in the Sgt. Pepper's costumes. The dinner-and-a-show option has sold out. Call Dixon Main Street, 815-288-2308, for more information.

Dueling Pianos fundraiser

POLO – The Midwest Dueling Pianos presents an evening of music and fun Saturday at White Pines LaBranche, 610 S. Division Ave. Request your favorite song, and with a little financial incentive, the piano players will play it. Money raised will be donated to Oregon Trail Days.
