Dezarae Haley, 25, served in the Army from June 2002 to July 2006, in Germany, Kosovo and Iraq. She is now taking business courses at Sauk Valley Community College. Dezarae and her husband, Nathan Haley, 32, live in Amboy with their sons, Jaden, 3, and Demetrius, 1. Dezarae is the daughter of Teresa Gore and Terry Sutton, both of Hutchinson, Kan., and has two half-sisters, two half-brothers and five stepbrothers.

Alma mater: I graduated in 2002 from Hutchinson High School.

Philosophy: If you don’t take care of yourself, no one else will do it for you.

Hearts: Knitting and crocheting, “House,” “Accidentally on Purpose” and “Criminal Minds.”

Darts: Very, very judgmental people.

Hero: My grandma, Sue Gore, of Kansas. She’s got a heart of gold and a mind of steel.

First job: I worked at McDonald’s in South Hutchinson, Kan., when I was 16. I did a little bit of everything.

First car: A 1990 Geo Prism when I was 16.

People say I look like: My mom.

Phobia: Going back into the military.

Guilty pleasure: McDonald’s iced sweet tea.

I’d like to meet: Helen Keller.

Trading spaces: I’d like to visit Tuscany, Italy, for the scenery, people, and different culture.

Best thing about Amboy: The history, and the museum.
