HELENA, Mont. – Joseph “Joey” Michael McKeon, 19, of Helena, Mont., died Sunday, Nov. 22, 2009, from injuries sustained in an automobile accident.

Joey loved swimming. He swam competitively for 13 years with the Helena Lions Swim Team. He enjoyed 2 years as captain during his 4 years with the high school varsity swim team. Joey performed lifeguard duties at the Last Chance Splash Waterpark and Pool and looked forward to 2010 duties. On June 6, 2009, Joey graduated from Helena High. He attended the University of Montana with ambitions of obtaining a business degree, and was an avid Montana Grizzlies fan, with dreams to attend a national championship game.

After college graduation, Joey’s goal was to move to a big city and “make a million.” One of his favorite things to do was to be with his friends and jam to his music.

Joey touched the lives of everyone he met. He always had a smile on his face. He gave the best hugs and had a heart as big as the universe. Family, friends, and being with them, were the most important people and events of his life. He will be greatly missed.

Survivors include parents, Jim and Sandy McKeon of Helena, Mont.; two sisters, Erin (Andrew) Barton of Helena, Mont., and Mary (fiancé, Devin Strong) McKeon of Billings, Mont.; special friend, Kelsey Stordahl of Helena, Mont.; close friends Erica, Stephanie, Ross, Jack, and Jesse; newfound friend and college roommate, Tyler; grandparents, Willis and Laura McKeon of Malta and Gene and Lois Gascoigne of Dixon; and numerous aunts, uncles, and cousins.

Any contributions will be used to establish a college scholarship fund for Helena High Bengal swim team members.

The rosary will be recited at 11 a.m. Friday at the Cathedral of St. Helena, Helena, Mont., followed by a time of sharing. The funeral will be at noon Friday at the cathedral. Burial will be at Resurrection Cemetery, Helena, Mont. Luncheon will be served at the Brondel Center of the cathedral immediately after the burial. Arrangements were completed by Retz Funeral Home, Helena, Mont.
