Candidates flocking to Thomson, prison

Scott Lee Cohen, a Democrat who wants to be lieutenant governor, is canvassing the Thomson community around noon today, followed by a 2 p.m. news conference to rally support for the proposed sale of Thomson prison, he said in a news release Monday.

The news conference will be held at the Sunrise Restaurant, on state Route 84, just east of the Thomson prison.

Carroll County Board member Gerald Bork will deliver the opening remarks, and York Township Supervisor Clifford Duward also will attend the event to show his support.

Adam Andrzejewski, Republican gubernatorial hopeful, is holding a town hall meeting 4-6 p.m. Wednesday at the Sunrise.

The public is invited to discuss the “many issues of concern for Carroll County residents as well as the citizens of Illinois,” Andrzejewski said in a news release.
