Free meals available in Sauk Valley

Those looking for a hot meal on Thanksgiving have a variety of options.

■ Wednesday in Morrison, a free Thanksgiving meal with all the trimmings will be offered at 5:30 p.m. at the CRAVE building, 201 W. Market St. The meal will be prepared and served by Crossroads Community Church and its CRAVE Youth Ministry. Dinner is open to anyone; call for a reservation: Melissa DeVorah, 815-564-8019, Dawn Tiesman, 815-718-5745, or the church, 815-956-0090.

■ In Sterling on Thursday, the Twin Cities PADS Homeless Shelter and Firehouse of God Ministries will serve free Thanksgiving dinners.

Firehouse of God Ministries, 306 Fifth Ave., will have a free traditional dinner from noon to 1 p.m.

PADS, 111 E. 29th St, will be open all day Thursday, and volunteers will decorate for Christmas. A traditional turkey dinner will be served at 2 p.m.

In fact, those who need shelter are welcome to arrive at 7 Wednesday evening, and stay until 7  Friday morning, director Brandy Walter said in a news release.

■ Also Thursday, the Dixon Knights of Columbus will offer a free dinner at its hall, 506 W. Third St. All are invited to share in the meal, which will be served from noon to 3 p.m., organizer Gary Gornik said.

Lee-Ogle Transportation will provide free bus service from people’s homes to the hall and back; call 815-288-2117 today to arrange a ride in the Dixon area. Valet parking also will be available.
