POLO – Two teenage girls suffered minor injuries Wednesday afternoon when their car slid off the road and into a cornfield.

Around 3 p.m., Jamie Williams, 18, of German Valley, was driving south on Freeport Road when a deer crossed her path, according to the Ogle County Sheriff’s Department.

Williams swerved to avoid the deer and crashed into a fence on the west side of the road. The car rolled about 50 feet into a cornfield and landed on its roof.

Williams and her passenger, Haley DeVries, 15, Forreston, were trapped in the car for about 45 minutes before the Ogle County Sheriff’s Department and Polo Ambulance and Fire could get them out.

Both girls were wearing their seat belts and received minor cuts and bruises. They were taken to CGH Medical Center and later released.
